We hope you enjoyed your holiday season! We had a nice visit back in the States with family and friends over Christmas and spent a wonderful time in Piazza Grande with dear friends to bring in the New Year!
So much change is happening at Fonte Martino that we sometimes have to remind ourselves that we only arrived in Italy 8 months ago! Because we are looking forward to when our first guests arrive this Spring, we rarely take a moment to look back at what we have accomplished…which is one of the reasons we enjoy writing our blogs. It gives us that moment to reflect on the happenings here at Fonte Martino!
A few months back, we shared that we were building our glass greenhouse. With Spring just around the corner, we are pleased to say that it’s completed! There are still a few minor items to setup inside the greenhouse before we can plant our seeds, which won’t be long now. We are having so much fun picking out flower and vegetable seeds…we can almost taste the fresh tomatoes from the garden!
One of our goals is to be as self-sustaining as possible by focusing on organically grown garden-to-table produce to serve for our breakfasts. Most of our vegetable plants will be started by seed in the greenhouse. We are planning on harvesting the seeds from our best produce this coming year so that we can start the process over next Spring without having to purchase new seeds. We will also have a small flock of chickens that will produce fresh eggs (more on this in the future!).
At the beginning of December, we also built a new garden shed that the Italians refer to as “The Little Wooden House”. David did a lot of research to find the perfect shed for us, and as you can see from the photo, it’s adorable! Unfortunately, it’s a little too cold to stain it, so you will need to imagine it with a darker stain, light sconces on either side of the doors, a beautiful walking path and stairs, and plants and flowers to blend into the landscape. The workers building the suites would curiously watch us to see what we were doing. Once it started to take shape, we received a lot of “thumbs up” and “bravos” …we guess they were impressed by what we can do!
The Cortona and Siena Suites are coming along wonderfully! We are completely amazed at the amount of work it is taking to construct them and we could not be more pleased with our Architect and contractor. We spent a lot of time choosing the perfect floor tiles, fixtures, and furniture to ensure that the suites are as luxurious as possible. We know that when we travel, we always enjoy coming back to a relaxing and comfortable space to rest for our next adventure. All three suites were designed with this in mind and the results are better than expected. We are pleased that we are on schedule for our Spring opening!
Lastly, don’t forget that Fonte Martino Guest House & Estate is now accepting reservations, which can be made directly through our website. Relaxation awaits…
Oh my goodness…the beautiful changes taking place at Fonte Martino! I remember the “before” so it is very easy for me to recognize the “growth” that has taken place. So very proud of both of you! …And yes, I can picture the wooden house stained with sconces and a path and the great “fresh food” that will be available for my June visit! Hugs!!!
